Adopting a shelter pet is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Not only are you giving a deserving animal a second chance at a happy life, but you’re also gaining a loyal companion who will love you unconditionally. Every pet in the shelter has its own unique story, and this month, we’re excited to feature a very special girl: Billie! Read on to learn more about this sweet girl and why she’s such a fan favorite at the shelter!

"Hello! I’m Billie, the Gentle Giant! Affectionately called Billie Boo, I’m an adult female Dogo Argentino mix doggo (quite the tongue-twister, eh? ), weighing in at about 77 pounds of pure heart and love.

As soon as I arrived at the shelter, I made it my mission to show my best self and become the fan favorite. I’m happy to report that I’ve been quite successful in stealing ALL the volunteers’ hearts and have now become their pride and joy. So, my future paw-rents, get in line—because you’re next!

Some of my favorite things to do are follow my volunteer buddies around the yard, staring adoringly at them while cuddling with them, and getting those amazing head and back scratches and belly rubs. Aaaah, Heaven!

When you come to meet me, and I really hope you do, the first thing you will notice is my rough and tough exterior. But PLEASE…DON’T LET THAT FOOL YOU! You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how warm, sweet and affectionate I am. You also can’t help but notice my soulful eyes, soft fur coat and those cute, stubby tail-wags.

I'll stroll up to you like a VIP, sniff you like I’m solving a mystery, give you kisses and then a gentle nudge to say, “Hey, scratch my back, will ya?” If you hang around a bit longer, I might even warm up to you enough to lean on your legs or flop over for a belly rub to show you my affection and trust.

I'm quite the Lady and manners are very important to me! I already know how to “Sit” and will take treats from you very politely. I don’t seem very interested in walks, but when we do go for a short one, I’ll be right by your side.

I wait calmly and patiently in my kennel when my volunteer friends come to take me out for a walk. I also go back into my kennel with no fuss at all. I’m chill around doggos in the adjacent yards, but honestly, I’d rather be spending all my time with you wonderful hoomans.

One thing though — because of my love for exploring, I may be a bit of a Houdini and wander away for a spontaneous adventure. So, I need to go to a home with a secure, fenced yard to satisfy my curiosity and give me the freedom to explore at my own pace, while also keeping me safe.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, couch cuddler to curl up with for a snuggle and a snooze, I’m your girl! I’d like nothing better than to be your constant, affectionate, and loyal companion. Will you let me love you, please?"
